Computational thinking
I am interested in epistemic thinking and how people reason about science. In my recent dissertation work I explored how middle school classroom communities developed the norms and practices that undergirded their classroom science inquiry. In prior work I have examined students’ reasoning in written argumentation and classroom discourse.
In my current work as a postdoctoral scholar at Boston College, I am analyzing student written work, node-based computer programs, and interviews to explore their learning and experiences during a month-long STEM intervention integrating computational thinking, engineering, and biology. Extending that work, I am also exploring the supports that teachers may need to effectively implement curricula that integrate computational thinking into their high school science curricula.
Prior to graduate school, I completed my B.Sc. in Cognitive Systems at the University of British Columbia (Canada), where I had many research adventures in a variety of cognition-related fields, and built some Lego robots.

Meeting a new friend at the Chicago Field Museum!
I am curious about how people develop knowledge collaboratively and love thinking together, so please feel welcome to contact me!
